The Erasmus Data Service Centre (EDSC) was founded in 2006 by the University Library, together with the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). It began as a hub for financial data, established to meet the growing demand for quantitative research. Over time, our services have expanded (sometimes into other domains), but supporting financial data remains the core of our work.
Our mission is to provide high-quality data support to researchers, lecturers, and students — in close collaboration with ESE, ESSB, RSM, the Tinbergen Institute, and the University Library.
Our Team
The EDSC is driven by a dedicated team of data specialists:
- Arjan de Wit
- Paul Plaatsman
- Rob Grim
- Ronald Brabers
They bring broad expertise to support the university community in working with complex data sources.
Advisory Board
The EDSC is supported by an advisory board composed of academic experts from across the university:
- Dr. Vadym Volosovych (ESE)
- Dr. Evgenii Vladimirov (ESE)
- Dr. Dion Bongaerts (RSM)
- Dr. Richard Haans (RSM)
- Dr. Caspar David Peter (RSM)
- Dr. Asya Pisarevskaya (ESSB)
Their insights help shape the strategic direction and further development of EDSC’s services.
Our Network
The EDSC is actively involved in several collaborative networks:
- Local: Together with the Erasmus Centre for Data Analytics (ECDA), we form the Erasmus Data Collaboratory, located on the first floor of the Polak Building.
- Regional: We maintain strong ties with colleagues from Leiden, Delft, and Erasmus (LDE).
- National: EDSC staff are members of DebWEB, the Dutch network of economics and business librarians, and serve as EUR ambassadors for SURF.
- International: Since 2019, the EDSC has been part of the ZBW network.
