Recognition & Rewards toolbox

Overview of Woudestein Campus

This toolbox offers resources that can stimulate the implementation of Recognition & Rewards (R&R) pillars. These are: diversified career paths; focus on quality in performance assessment; teamwork; good academic leadership; open science. Here you can find workshop and interactive session formats, process overviews and step-by-step guides. Many of these are customisable and adaptable to diverse contexts and participants. All of the tools were originated and created by the EUR R&R team. All our tools are also stored on the EUR Data repository.

Tools for: diversifying career paths

Offering diversified career paths is one of the ways to create room for diverse talents that exist in academia. This allows academics to follow their true passions and ambitions without having to be 'a sheep with five legs', and to encourages specialisation in a team. .

Tools for: focusing on quality

Putting more emphasis on qualitative assessment of academic performance is essential for culture change of R&R. This helps shift the imbalance created by historically favouring quantitative output indicators in assessment, recognising, and rewarding of academic work. The tools below support looking at and talking about results and goals through a more qualitative lens.

Tools for: enabling effective teamwork

Alongside valuing individual performance, R&R emphasises bringing more acknowledgement to the contribution of academics in a team context. Diverse talents and skills interplay and support each other, creating effective, well-functioning teams where talents are utilised in the most beneficial way. This way, teams allow for specialisation. Below you can find tools that stimulate good teamwork.

Tools for: communicating about & embedding R&R

Communicating about R&R is important to create awareness about the programme and the culture change it represents. It also allows to create relatability and address concerns about R&R among academics. At the same time, having a good overview of how existing policies, processes, and procedures relate to R&R and each other encourages programme implementation. You can use the tools below to support these two areas.
