Tina van der Vlies’ first book has been awarded with the on December 2, 2022. The ceremony took place in the Old Town Hall, an impressive medieval monument, in Braunschweig. The award is endowed with a 5,000 EUR prize, subsidised by the Westermann Gruppe, and is handed out every two years by the (GEI) for outstanding academic work in the field of international educational media research. The findings from such work benefit the Institute’s goals and educational media providers, as the research offers valuable stimuli for the development and improvement of teaching materials.

Her work was praised for the new developed theoretical viewpoint and method to analyze history textbooks as well as for the thorough empirical part in which these new viewpoints gain a foothold. Next to the academic relevance, the jury mentioned the societal relevance of the comparative work: insights in narrative patterns and the transmission will help the further development of new educational media.
Book launch in january
The book has just been published by Brill | V&R unipress in hard copy and variant. The book launch in the Netherlands is planned on Thursday January 19, 2023. This event is organised by History@Erasmus and the Center for Historical Culture and will start at 2 PM with a book presentation and a first reaction by prof. dr. , professor in Theory and History of ÌÇÐÄÖ±²¥ at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. The GEI conducts research into the production, content, and appropriation of educational media and investigates schools in its socio-cultural, political, economic, and historical contexts.
