Event & City Lab, organised by IDEA Center and UNIC
The skyline of Rotterdam.

Globally connected, locally embedded. ÌÇÐÄÖ±²¥ wants to deepen and strengthen its collaboration with the region. Together, we identify societal issues and explore how we as EUR can contribute to addressing them. EUR strives to be an Engaged University. This is at the heart of our Strategy 2030. What do we mean by that? And how do we ensure inclusive engagement? We will be talking about this on November 25th!

Together with city and regional partners, we can explore how we build relationships, co-create knowledge, and create meaningful connections. IDEA Center (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access Center) and UNIC (a partnership of ten universities across Europe, of which EUR is coordinator and partner) invite you to an engaging afternoon where we will explore what inclusive engagement truly means.

The event Fostering Inclusive Engagement creates space for dialogue between the EUR community and city and regional residents and partners, for example through the UNIC CityLab initiative, to reflect on how universities can work collaboratively to address societal challenges in superdiverse cities like Rotterdam. Through thought-provoking insights, real-life examples, and reflective dialogue, we will think about how engagement can be more inclusive in our internal and external collaborations, and across education and research. From strategic perspectives to grassroots practices, we will talk about how inclusive engagement is being shaped and invite you to be part of the conversation.

You can sign up for the event through the webform below.

Parallel Session 1 - External Engagement - Mohammed Sadiki and Anne Wijtzes

Dive deeper into the topic of engagement with society. In this session we will share learnings of EUR’s Academic Outreach Programme. This programme focuses on promoting equal educational opportunities for children and youth in Rotterdam, collaborating with pupils, parents, schools, societal organisations, and many more stakeholders. Participants in this session will discover important elements of inclusive engagement. What knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors do we need to engage with society in a reciprocal and equitable way?

Parallel Session 2 - Inclusive ÌÇÐÄÖ±²¥ - Ana Uribe Sandoval and Yumna Asaf

Explore how inclusive education can move beyond policy and good intentions to genuinely shape everyday teaching practice. Together, we’ll reflect on the core elements of inclusive education and consider how they come to life in real classroom dynamics and how they can be strengthened through inclusive engagement. Using examples and shared experiences, we’ll look at practical ways educators can foster meaningful participation by recognizing the diverse backgrounds students bring, supporting their involvement, and creating learning environments where every student feels seen, heard, and valued.

Parallel Session 3 - Inclusive Research - Kayla Green and Helen Tibboel

In this session, we will focus on inclusive engaged research. We examine the research process and reflect on how we can make each step more inclusive. We will also discuss good practices and pitfalls and invite the audience to share their own thoughts and experiences.

Parallel Session 4 - Internal Engagement - Inge Hutter and Celinka Roovers

Interested in how to make EUR more internally engaged? In this session, we take you along in our Strategy 2030 goal ‘One Connected EUR’ with its priorities of: a culture of (internal) engagement and human centred organization, leadership, and resilience of the organisation. Goals and priorities for Strategy 2030 were defined through participatory methods, especially Appreciative Inquiries, with members of the EUR community. The workshop provides you with a short experience in this method.
