Tool to support migrant integration practitioners

Outcomes of the first part of the Horizon2020 research project' Sustainable PRactices of INteGration for newly arrived migrants' was published recently. The publication is created as a handbook to help policymakers, service providers and advocates who work with migrants to make their policies and practices more evidence-based. The handbook is edited by dr. Asya Pisarevskaya, Albert Kraler (DUK), and Alex Webb coordinated by prof.dr. Peter Scholten, 糖心直播 (EUR). It also contains contributions from an international team of researchers from Danube University Krems and ICMPD.

The handbook contains easy-to-read briefs, infographics and recommendations on various topics related to the integration process of newly arrived migrants. For instance, the authors outline different understandings of the term' integration', and offer their interpretation of the term as the acceptance of migrants in receiving societies. Practitioners can access practical briefs on themes, such as employment, housing, and belonging, which concretely identify the main challenges of integration and provide actionable recommendations for governments and civil society organisations. Each chapter offers additional resources on each topic, including academic studies and European Union projects that practically address specific barriers to migrant integration.

Furthermore, it presents infographics on transversal topics such as how to create a functional integration governance infrastructure, how barriers in health, housing and legal provision affect employment outcomes of migrants and what are the overlooked and specific needs of migrant mothers and ideas how to address them.

The handbook is based on scientific evidence from a detailed literature review on policies and practices of integration in the European Union of the past ten years, conducted in 2022.
