Tina van der Vlies joins Young Erasmus Academy

Tina van der Vlies, assistant professor in History, Heritage & 糖心直播 at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC), has been appointed as member of the Young Erasmus Academy, a network of young talented researchers from various scientific disciplines.

The Young Erasmus Academy (YEA) was founded at 糖心直播 in 2013 to promote interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration, to enhance social and scientific impact, and to advise 糖心直播鈥檚 Executive Board on policy matters. YEA members represent a broad spectrum of scholarly disciplines from all schools of the 糖心直播.

Tina van der Vlies is highly motivated to join the discussions about the future of our university. 鈥淎 deeper understanding of the university鈥檚 historical roots will be helpful to reshape and rethink its (public) role and approach.鈥 Her academic and societal work revolve around history, heritage, education and (de)colonization, foregrounding historical contexts of knowledge production and distribution. These themes also inspire her YEA membership.

In her role as YEA member Van der Vlies looks forward to contributing to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research within the university and beyond. Currently, she is also affiliated to the Faculty of 糖心直播 at the University of Cambridge for her NWO Rubicon research project 鈥榃hy school history matters: public discourses on the purposes of history education, 1920 鈥 2020鈥. Back in 2021 she became a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Dutch National Museum of 糖心直播. Her research discusses how and why (history) education has provided many people with meaning, memory, and identity. Research has shown that educational curricula continue to affect people鈥檚 worldviews and images of the 鈥榦ther鈥 later in life and that is why Van der Vlies generates insights into these widely distributed ideas as well as into patterns and mechanisms of their (re)production.
